For the Friedland hotel, the NOCC studio was freely inspired of the Parisian Belle Époque spirit of the 19th century, this in order to create an interior atmosphere in osmosis with the exterior architecture of the building. Both a space where you soak up the spirit of the city and a place of serenity by a peaceful design like the great cafes that have developed throughout Europe from the Grand Tour.
Inspired by the end of the 19th century, arches, vaults, parquet broken sticks, stained glass, marquetry, cane, mirrors, marble and terrazzo design the different spaces of the hotel. Shades of green, gray-blue, cream and walnut come to highlight the different functions of the place.
In the reception, adjoining a desk in Etruscan green marble, a stained glass window entirely made in the techniques traditional, whose motif is a tribute to the work by Pierre Soulages, welcomes visitors. A screen in
mirror and tinted marquetry design the lobby. In the tea room where breakfast is also served, a ceiling composed of six asymmetrical vaults
carried out using traditional plastering techniques magnifies the volume of the room and draws large functionalities of the space: seats, sideboard, library. The absence of the two central pillars opens the room while giving it a surreal side that could make you think of a contemporary ruin. In the
arches thus come to play the lights and the shadows throughout the day. The
large folding mirrors fragment and interweave perspectives offering unexpected views of space and its details. In the floors, the different categories of rooms are characterized by different material combinations and furniture. For superior rooms, Studio NOCC designed curved cane headboards, sculptural bedside tables incorporating lights and controls, as well as a hanging desk in walnut and leather, all in harmony to the walnut parquet with broken sticks. In others rooms we find comfortable headboards composed of oversized cushions resting on a walnut base in front of which is a wooden bedside tinted end.
